Audi Reveals A1 S-Line Sport Package

Just like the BMW Group did with its MINI-branded cars, Audi is planning to offer an amazing amount of customization options and packages for its new entry-level A1 model including the S-Line sport kit which is expected to be one of the most popular options amongst buyers.

Seen here for the first time in official photos, the S-Line kit comprises of two separate packages. The S-Line Exterior package sweetens up the A1's looks with chiseled sill tops, a larger roof spoiler, a more concave front bumper with side air-vents and a new rear bumper with a diffuser and matte optics.

The second kit is called S-Line Sport Package and it adds 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, a sport suspension with dynamic suspension tuning, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel and sport seats.

And no, none of the available packages offer any performance upgrades for the four engines (two petrols with 86HP and 122HP, and two diesels with 90HP and 105HP) and that will be available at the A1's launch. For more details on the A1 check out our previous stories by clicking here and here.

Mercedes' First-Ever Diesel-Hybrid

At the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes previewed its first-ever, series-production diesel-hybrid model, the E300 BlueTEC HYBRID that will be available in both sedan and Estate body styles when it is launched onto the market at the end of 2011.

The hybrid system pairs a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine developing 204HP with a 20HP (15kW) electric motor for a combined output of 224 horsepower and a torque of over 580 Nm or 427.8 lb-ft.

The electric motor, positioned between the internal combustion engine and the 7-speed automatic transmission, assists the diesel unit when the car is accelerating (boost effect) and is used for the recuperation of braking energy in alternator mode. Furthermore, it can be used to power the car alone for short distances at speeds of up to 35 km/h or 22 mph.

According to Mercedes, the E 300 BlueTEC's hybrid system doesn't restrict boot space and variability in the slightest, as all of the hybrid technology, including the high-voltage battery, is housed in the engine compartment.

The German automaker said that the E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID returns a combined fuel economy of 4.1 lt/ 100km (equal to 57.4 mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.

James Bond Style Lotus Evora Captured Filming in the Alps

Courtesy of Carscoop reader Allison P. coming straight out of my home town are these pictures of a probably-rocket-equipped Lotus Evora captured during a ski trip in Chamonix in the French Alps.

Here's what Allison had to tell us about her encounter with the Evora and the film crew:

"I'm just on a skiing holiday now in Chamonix in the French Alps and have seen loads of commotion around a film set. I watched an action stunt scene being filmed with tons of crews and papparazzi swarming! I especially noticed a flashy new Lotus Evora being used in the filming. Is there any way that this could be for the new James Bond film?"

Well, there are three possibilities as to what this ski-bearing tastefully-trimmed Lotus Evora is doing in the Alps: 1) it's the new 007 Bond car, 2) it's a Bond-themed Lotus ad campaign, or 3) some dude (or hopefully super-fine Geneva model...call me!) with a ton of cash just really likes attention.

The Ferrari Enzo is named after the company’s father, Enzo Ferrari. Why? Well, the Enzo was the best Ferrari production car of its time. The team then decided to name it FERRARI ENZO.

The first thing that I want you to know about the Enzo is that is a Ferrari. Car enthusiasts wouldn’t care what model you have as long as it is a Ferrari. The second is about its aerodynamic de experience sign. The Enzo’s aerodynamic design is inspired by the Ferrari F1. Yes. The driving feels the same as the F1’s. It even has the Ferrari technology that has been restricted from F1 because of its advantage over the other participants. The Enzo is mostly carbon-fiber in material. Even some parts of the dashboard!

Let me take you inside of it.

Here is a picture of the steering wheel.

Look closely. It has those tiny buttons. If you are not a car enthusiast, you would think that those are just Ferrari rubbish. Well, they’re not. The button that is least pressed is the RACE button. You might ask why. Well, it’s for you to find out.

The next thing is its transmission. It is semi-automatic and is paddle-operated. That’s what makes it like an F1! Paddle-operated transmission!

Well, this review has been about the Ferrari Enzo and the Maserati MC12. Why? Because they are brothers! Maserati was under the Ferrari’s management when the MC12 was conceptualized and produced. And as I’ve said, they share the same DNA. They share almost the same V12 engine, suspension design and carbon chassis with aluminum cradles at either end, mid-engined rear-wheel drive set-up and the six speed sequential paddle-shifts.

Compared to the digital Ferrari Enzo, the Maserati MC12 is analog. The MC12 was conceptualized and produced during the time when Maserati was under Ferrari’s supervision.

Hmm. Do you think you’ve seen this interior before? Maybe. It’s almost the same as the Enzo’s! It also has that paddle-operated transmission! See the difference? The Enzo is digital while the MC12 is analog! Look closely to compare the MC12’s dials with the Enzo’s! They’re almost the same!
